Several Andalusian golf courses collaborate in the fight against the coronavirus COVID-19 by giving machinery to fumigate and disinfect public roads

The workers of several golf courses in the Malaga municipality of Benahavís have begun to collaborate in the cleaning of their streets in an initiative originated in Atalaya Golf & Country Club to which Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club, Club de Campo La have quickly joined. Zagaleta, Villa Padierna Golf Club, Marbella Club and La Quinta Golf & Country Club.

“We will work with two sprayers and two operators to clean and disinfect the streets of the developments near our club. On the golf course we are working with a fumigator and an operator, on the other hand Agronimer has provided a second fumigator and another operator to disinfect these spaces. The Benahavís City Council, for its part, provides the cleaning product and diesel necessary for these tasks” , indicates Andrés Sánchez, director of Atalaya Golf & Country Club and promoter of this initiative.

This same initiative is being developed in other Andalusian provinces. In Huelva, Islantilla Golf Resort has put its machinery and personnel at the disposal of the Lepe City Council and for a few days they have been assembling work teams with colleagues from the agricultural sector to clean public roads. For his part, the Almerian Golf Almerimar is already using its sprayer to disinfect the surroundings of the golf course and the marina.

In Marbella, this aid project is also underway by the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina. In this way, once they have the necessary cleaning products, the golf club will begin disinfecting public roads in the urbanizations of Guadalmina Alta, Guadalmina Baja and El Viso.

Many other golf courses have made their resources available to their respective municipalities to carry out these tasks, but in some cases, the municipalities already had the machinery and human resources necessary to carry them out.

According to the World Health Organization, the main routes of transmission of the coronavirus COVID-19 are respiratory and contact with contaminated surfaces. Therefore, in the same way that extreme personal hygiene, hand washing and disinfection of domestic surfaces are recommended, it is vitally important to make an effort to clean and disinfect public spaces to reduce the exposure of citizens to virus.
